*Using different types of motivation in the classroom is important for student success. We can do this through intrinsic and extrinsic rewards. By giving students candy in the class, we are showing them that they did something good, but there are other ways to show them. By praising them with rewards such as student of the week or writer of the week, we are showing them that there are other ways to be successful in the classroom. They can also wear "brag bracelets" to show their peers and parents that they did something positive that day.
*I've learned that students need to be motivated and if we are able to provide that, there will be a better chance of success. Motivation can come from internal or external factors. If we can increase the motivation in our students they will have a higher desire to learn.
*The theory associated with this is Covington's self-worth motivation theory. Students are motivated through different types of rewards. When students achieve high and are rewarded, they tend to continue to have high achievements for themselves. They feel good about themselves and want to continue doing so.
