*As teachers, it is important to welcome our students back to a new school year in a new classroom. One way we can accomplish this is by using a welcome letter that students and parents can read. It is addressed to the students, but it includes parent involvement right away. We want our parents to be involved as well, to start off the year in a positive manner. I chose to use this artifact because it involves both the student and the parent, it's colorful and friendly, and because it is only one page. Most welcome letters that teachers hand out to the students is 6 pages long because it has all sorts of attachments. Why not make it easy and use one page to say it all?
*By using a welcome letter, I have learned that it gets you off on the right foot for the remainder of the year. It gets students back into the swing of things without being a burden because we will have students that are really disappointed to come back to school. While some are excited to start a new year, others will have wanted another week of summer. It is important to make the transition an easy one.
