*I chose this artifact to represent my classroom because I believe that students need independence by having their own desk and space, but they also need to work with group members hence having the group table. I also think it is important for me as the teacher to face all students and them not having their back to me. Having the U-shape will give me power as the teacher because I am able to see students at all times when teaching in the front of the classroom. I also believe that having a carpet space is important because students need time to get out of their seats and have other places to sit. At their desks they will have the large aerobic balls to sit on because it will relieve some of their built up energy. Being a student myself, I hate sitting for long periods of time because I become restless, therefore it is important for my students to move around the classroom. I also chose bean bags for their independent time because I want them to be comfortable during their free time to do things. I know I like sitting on bean bags and being comfy when I do independent work. I chose to put the supplies around the edges of the room because I feel as though classrooms fill in fast and there is only so much space. We really need to make every thing fit the best we can, therefore, it is essential to use wall space, cupboards, and shelving. I put a smart board in my classroom because I believe it is important for students to be exposed to technology and because there are so many new things we can do with these boards. Students can be interactive with the boards and really use them to their advantage. Overall I believe that my classroom is laid out as a typical classroom, however I do know from being in the schools that you don't always have as much space as you anticipate.
*I've learned that sometimes we will have to accommodate with the space and work with what we have. It is necessary for all students to have personal space and group time, but how we lay it out is what really matters.
*I feel as though this ties with Rogers theory of experiential learning because students are gaining experiences by having the classroom arranged the way it is. By having group work space, individual work time, and being comfortable, students will take away more from what they are learning and experiencing.
